The idea of Work Life Balance presupposes that they are water tight compartments, which it is not. The semantics of the word “Individual” means that which cannot be divided , but we are trying to divide ourselves in to “Work” and “Life.”
The effort to find this balance is flawed in its inception. This perceived difference is the cause of all challenges in the work or business and personal lives of people. It creates stress in the workplace and drives people to operate from an inauthentic space. It creates different set of values for your business and personal life. This so-called divide cannot be bridged by throwing goodies at employees. The problem of Work Life cannot be solved. It has to dissolve by the right understanding.
Employee Engagement is a big challenge as a result of this dichotomy. Employee Engagement is as low as 30 % in the US. Relentless focus on bottom lines at the cost of people have cost the lives and health of business leaders as well as employees. Profit Centric decision making has cost businesses to go out of business in the long term. It is high time for a deeper soul search and rethink on what our priorities are as a society and sustainable profitability model that puts people first over profits.
If we analyze the Critical Success Factors of a company, People factor is 80% whereas the Processes and systems constitute the balance 20%. Successful CEOs and Business leaders have a higher conversion on the People factor of 80%, but those leaders with low Self Awareness Index end up with a low conversion, thereby the overall probability of success is minimized.
Business leaders do lip service when it comes to building the right culture within organizations. Those leaders who lack Self Awareness end up just checking the box on building Corporate Culture , but do not stack up when the rubber meets the road.
What is the way forward ? Business leaders have to undergo the deeper Self Awareness Journey. Silence is the Tool for the deep Inner Transformation. It ensures that you think and operate from the Authentic Space of the Heart, active listening, Empathy, Compassion. Thought precedes Actions and Silence precedes Thought.
Applications of this Inner Silence Transformation Journey is deep and has its cascading effects on Customer Centricity, Empathy, Cohesiveness of Teams, Alignment of Interest of business partners, Improved Communication flows within the organization, building agile and lean companies and building sustainable and profitable business that has the interest of all stakeholders including the society at large.
It is high time for all the Heart Centered Entrepreneurs to come together and bring about a Movement that makes running a business or working for one is enjoyable, sustainable and responsible.
