On the weekend of April 20-April 21, 2024, Shumei Arts Council invites you to a variety of free events to commemorate their 25th anniversary. Their mission to build a better world where people experience beauty, harmony and creativity through the arts has been supported by years of numerous activities that have included children’s concerts, Pasadena Art Night activities, artist exhibitions, Makoto Taiko concerts, and chamber music concerts as well as premiers of original music by local composers.
On Saturday April 20, 2pm-4pm, the award-winning life coach and motivational speaker Filippo Voltaggio (vocalist, author, and radio host of The Life Changes Show) will present a free workshop “Finding Your Voice” that promises to inspire and share insights on public speaking, managing performance anxiety, as well as how to be your true self in the moment of any presentation. This event supports non-musicians and musicians who desire to improve their stage presence and communication skills. This is a unique opportunity to gain insights from Voltaggio, who has received the “Master Award” from the Save the World Foundation, The President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, The President’s Call to Service Award, and The President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Service, including numerous Sergio Franchi Awards.
Sunday April 21, 2pm-4pm, promises to delight the audience with two free afternoon concerts followed by a reception. The first concert will feature the highly regarded award-winning AlmaNova Duo with flutist, Jessica Pierce and guitarist/composer, Almer Imamovic; performing original classical crossover world-influenced music with Balkan inspired melodies and rhythms.
After a brief intermission, a jazz ensemble led by internationally recognized jazz recording artist Bob Sheppard (saxophone) will perform with a stellar gathering of other award-winning jazz musicians that will include: Mitch Forman (keyboard), Ken Wild (bass), Steve Hass (drums), with special guest vocalist Maria Puga Lareo. The collection of talent from these musicians will be a memorable display of artistry and creativity for the audience; a true musical celebration for the 25th anniversary of the Shumei Arts Council.
