I have a client who has been very stuck in certain aspects of his life. He has also been very successful in many areas of his life as well, but unfortunately he could not see his success because he was so stuck on being stuck, that the feeling of failure predominated. He is a fairly new client and though our working relationship has served in helping him through many blockages, I was eager to help him see how he was stuck on being stuck. I was wanting him to acknowledge, recognize, dissern that he was stuck. Of course, he intellectually knew that he must be stuck because he was not able to move forward, but he was so convinced that everything he was doing was so right, that he couldn’t see an error in his ways, though the results of his life were not what he wanted.
As is said, recognition of the problem is half way to the solution. Well, he knew it was there, he just coldn’t recognize it. What does it look like? That was the hurdle. It wasn’t obviuos to him. Then one day, as the Italians would say, the cheese accidentally fell on top of the plate of spaghetti, and I jumped at the opportunity to serve it up to him on a silver platter.
Last week my client called me to share a brilliant idea, and it truly was a brilliant idea. It was a no brainer, it was easy, doable, and good for his organization and all involved. As far as he was concerned, it was fail proof and a done deal. For all intents and purposes, it should have been, but he did not take into consideration what was in other people’s minds, and their personal stuckness.
My client brilliantly minifested a mirror, and in the mirror was a man who was stuck, his employer. When he presented his idea to his employer, the man immediately came up with several obstacles, obstacles, that did not seem to exist in reality, except in his employer’s stuck mind. The decision was made to not proceed with the idea.
My client called me frustrated and irate and shared with me the happenings, or lack there of. I listened to my client and when he was done with is rant, I shared with him my compassion for his employer’s stuckness. I suggested to my client that he show his employer respect and give him the space he needs to some day, hopefully soon, release his stuckness that is surely causing problems in his personal life, but obviously to the organization, which is evident to everyone, but him, cause he is stuck and he doesn’t see it, and can’t seem to listen to reason.
I suggested to my client that he treat his employer the way he would like to be treated when someone is suggesting something to him that to them seems obvious and clear, and he doesn’t see it. In other words, when he is stuck.
Silence.
This is what stuckness looked like. For the first time he could see stuckness, and to him it was ugly, usless, unproductive. My client who was in the past confrontational evidently took my advise. A few days later, he told me that his colleagues, with whom he had shared his idea before speaking with his employer, confronted his employer and asked why my client’s idea had not yet been implimented. They insisted the organization proceed with my clients ideas.
Within the week, my client called me to tell me, that his employer not only implimented his idea, but it came with an apology as well. And so, life changes for the better. Love it!
