Dear Son
Trying to say a lot in a few words!
Life is not scripted and we are not typecast.
That is to mean, that we all have a choice in who we are, and who we will be.
We all make our own paths, life is not a race to fit in, and paths are constantly changing. When you find one of those paths, and there will be many. You will have to commit. You will have to paint a picture in your minds eye. You have to write a script in your head. Then you will have to believe, not a little bit, but with your entire being. You have to go all in. You have to take a Haka, Sun Tzu slash Carpe Diem approach to being successful at your path.
These words are self-described as in that they convey an attitude. You have to be driven by your passion, dedication, love, desire and vision, a hell of a vision. A vision that some can’t see or others don’t share. The only one drinking the Kool Aid here is you. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. If it were, everyone would do it. You will in the pursuance of your dreams, face tough situations. You will hit the wall many times. You have to hold on and ride it out. You must push through and endeavor to persevere. After all, how we handle adversity invariably defines who we are as a person.
There is no grand understanding of life nor the universe here. There is just a father trying to tell his son that in years to come, try and look back with as few regrets as possible. Life is what happens while your living. Try and take a more myopic view of the paths available. Do you know this word? Myopic loosely translated it means blurry far away, clear close. Everything looks great from 30,000 feet.
Pick your paths wisely, but pick a path. Your paths may change but the manner in which you travel the path should not. I believe that there is greatness in you. I believe you can do anything that you truly set your mind too. I also believe that as your father one my many responsibilities is to continually point this out to you. If you set your goals high and fall short, it is still better than setting them low and hitting your mark. I want you to have it all.
I’ve wanted to say this for sometime in so many words, but your busy with life.
Call an old fat man someday.
Love
Your Pop
