“Embracing the Mirror” by Gina Pero
Pathways to see, hear, and love you for who you are today.
“I finally looked in the mirror at 30 years old and took a look at my back, my spine.”
For years and years and years, I was unable to look at my back, see me, see my beauty, see my gifts, see what was possible, see the unknown, and see my body.
When I was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 12, I didn’t want to look at my back , I didn’t want to see myself , see my imbalances, see my body,. (Pout Face.)
I didn’t want to hear my feelings, my thoughts, my doctor, my parents, my body, my spine, and I didn’t want to hear god either.
I also didn’t want to love me, love my spine, love my feelings, love the news of my spine and being put in a back brace at age 12.
What about you?
When was a time you didn’t want to see you, hear you, and love you?
When did you have a life experience that you didn’t want to look at, hear about again, or love ?
I get it!!
I remember my Dad sharing a wise statement with me when I was growing up, “ The road to success may at times be under construction.”
Was my experience with scoliosis just construction?
The truth for me was I had two choices…
Being a dancer, I chose move.
I chose to move through the seeing, the hearing, and the loving.
I chose to build my faith muscle, my confidence muscle, my body awareness muscle, my seeing muscle, my hearing muscle, and my loving muscle.
I am not writing to tell you this was easy, I am sharing that it was worth it.
“I am worth it.” (Say that out loud 3x)
In order for me to live a life feeling fulfilled , pain free or having ease and joy in my physical and mental body , I had to create a way for my spine to feel worth it, my body to feel worth it, and for my heart and soul to feel worth it.
I had to choose faith over fear, and I had to see me, my truth, my spine. I had to hear my feelings, hear my dreams, hear God, and I had to learn love, more specifically unconditional love, patience and kindess to me, my body, my mind, and my spirit.
How did I begin this journey in embracing me?
I want to share these 3 tools:
1. “RIGHT NOW” TOOL
Example: “Right now I see my upper spine is 17 degrees, right now I hear my heart is sad, and right now I choose to embrace me, be patient and kind to me. Right now, dance is my freedom. Right now, I am wearing a back brace to bed.”
2. ASK FOR HELP
Example: “Mom, can you help me with my scoliosis exercises?”
“God, can you show me your plan, can you bring the people who can help heal me, can you open my heart to this experience?”
“Dance Teacher, can you help me understand my body alignment, and ways for me to dance and stretch with my body type?”
Example: “Inhale hold it for 2, exhale fully.” Repeat 3-5x. Breathe into the areas of the body that feel uncomfortable and repeat “infinite love and gratitude.”
These 3 tools are the beginning of being able to see, hear, and love you, which are the 3 core human desires.
As I began to give myself these 3 core human desires, I began embracing, loving, and accepting me which led me on my path of all-being, all-knowing, and all-receiving. My spine began unwinding, my spirit uplifted, my mind learned loving thoughts, and my soul attracted all it desired.
What would your life feel like RIGHT NOW:
If your body felt ease and joy, your spirit felt full, your mind was productive, and you began attracting all you desired?
What will your life feel like when you begin embracing , loving, and accepting you?
What will your life feel like when you begin seeing, hearing, and loving yourself without condition ?
I can only share from my own experience, that in answering these questions and using these tools my life changed. It went from stress to ease, physical pain to physical freedom, and a mindful monster to a mindfulness breath gifting me with presence, passion, and purpose.
What can you choose right now to begin living in ease and joy?
Your mind, body , and spirit are asking you to choose this RIGHT NOW!
You GOD this!
