I went to the Creative Arts Center for Spiritual Living today for the first time. I was invited there by the new musical director, Joey Symon, who also invited me to sing at a service on March 13th. I went to meet him and the Spiritual Director and to participate in a service.
The teachings are Science of Mind teachings and the Spiritual Director, Joan McCall, not only shared the teachings but shared several stories that brought the teachings home. One such story was one that I had never heard and I wanted to share with you all today.
She said that a man was climbing in the mountains with his young son. At one point his son tripped over a rock and hurt himself and yelled out “Ouch!” Almost immediately he heard back someone on the other side of the mountain yell back, “Ouch!” The son was surprised and yelled out to the voice, “Who Are you?” The voice responded, “Who Are you?”
The son was not amused, and not wanting to go into a game of parrot with the voice, yelled out “Coward!” Immediately, “Coward” was yelled back at him in return.
The son was visibly angry at being not only mocked but called a coward. He looked at the Father inquisitively and exasperated. The Father smiled and began to explain that some people call what you just experienced, an echo. But I, said the Father, call it “Life.” He said, listen to this. And proceed to holler at the top of his voice out to the mountain, “You are amazing.” Immediately the response came back, “You are amazing.” “You are valued,” hollered the Father. “You are valued,” came the response.
You see, said the Father to his son, whatever you put out in life, you get in return.
Thank you Joan for this story, and for what you do for your community.
